Internationally Renowned Yoga Teacher Cyndi Lee to
"Yoga Body, Buddha Mind" Hot Springs Retreat Only 7 Spots Left! Internationally renowned yoga teacher Cyndi Lee is visiting the Southwest for the first time this fall to lead a "Yoga Body Buddha Mind" retreat in her former student's new studio – The Mothership Yoga Lounge – in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Shayna Samuels Turner, who became a Yoga Alliance Registered teacher at Lee's OM Yoga Center in Manhattan, recently opened the studio with her husband, Glenn Turner, a long-time yoga practitioner. In addition to studying yoga at OM, Shayna also helped edit Lee's book, Yoga Body, Buddha Mind.
"It is especially meaningful to be offering this workshop at the groovy Mothership Yoga Lounge," said Lee. "I am curious to find out what it will feel like to practice in the land of enchantment – more earthy, less urban, just thinking about it relaxes me." Cyndi Lee is a practitioner of both Tibetan Buddhism and Hatha Yoga. She writes on yoga for several magazines and is the author of several books including Yoga Body, Buddha Mind and OM Yoga: a Guide to Daily Practice. She leads the Yoga Body Buddha Mind retreat alongside David Nichtern, a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and Pema Chodron. "We are honored to have Cyndi and David at The Mothership," said Shayna. "They are both extremely talented teachers and have had a huge influence on my personal practice." The Mothership Yoga Lounge, www.mothershipyogalounge.com is a new venue for yoga, music, performance art and retreats. The studio is located in a 4,000 square foot adobe church from the 1930's that the Turners bought and completely renovated. They moved to "T or C", as the locals call it, from New York City after falling in love with the town's magical hot springs and burgeoning artist community. T or C is located in the southern New Mexico desert. In addition to being the home of Richard Branson's future Spaceport, Vanity Fair recently described it as "the latest influential art enclave" and Budget Travel named it one of America's "10 Coolest Towns." Much of the downtown sits on a hot mineral aquifer that has been used for healing purposes for centuries, beginning with the Native Americans who were the original inhabitants of the area. The Mothership has already attracted celebrities such as Jack Black, who took a yoga class with Shayna at the Mothership while in town filming Judd Apatow's new movie, Year One. "We are in the middle of nowhere, but somehow people find us," said Glenn Turner. "I can say with certainty this is one of the weirdest places I've ever been." In March 2008 the Mothership hosted the first ever New Mexico Yoga Teachers Conference featuring Kirtan by Dave Stringer, which was a huge success. The Yoga Body Buddha Mind Retreat is expected to attract visitors from all over the Southwest including New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. More About the Yoga Buddha Mind Retreat: Through yoga practice, students will explore how alignment, breathing, balancing, stretching and strengthening provide the ideal opportunity to apply the Buddhist meditation techniques of watching your mind, recognizing your habits, and opening your heart. Daily dharma talks and sitting and walking meditations will help cultivate awareness and compassion aspects of practice that help our minds become unbiased, wakeful, and connected. This powerful union of yoga and Buddhism offers a recipe for awakening, enlivening, and transforming the energy of our bodies and minds in a way that carries into our lives off the yoga mat and meditation cushion. It becomes a way of living that infuses the daily adventures, encounters, and relationships of our lives with the energy of practice. Before founding OM yoga center in 1998, Cyndi Lee taught yoga internationally for more than twenty years. She is known as a nurturing and compassionate teacher with an offbeat and playful style. In addition to being a medication teacher, David Nichtern is the founder of Dharma Moon and 5 Points Records: a Grammy and Emmy award winning composer, guitarist, producer and is the leader of the world fusion band Drala. HOW TO REGISTER: Details about the conference and the registration form can be found at: www.mothershipyogalounge.com/retreats.html. Space is limited.
